USB Binding

Last updated: October 1, 2026

USB Binding

USB binding adds a second factor by mixing a fingerprint of your drive into the encryption key itself. The fingerprint is combined with your master password before the key is derived, and PBKDF2 work rises from 100,000 to 150,000 iterations.

A bound vault cannot be decrypted without reproducing that fingerprint. The password alone is not enough.

Encrypted vaults will not decrypt without the drive fingerprint. Prevents cloud backup compromise and file-only theft. A second factor without extra hardware.

Wallet files remain portable across devices. Useful for testing, shared access, or frequent drive replacement. Reduced security.

USB binding can be configured during first-time setup or later in Settings. If your USB drive is lost or damaged, recovery is possible through your seed phrase on a new drive.
